PART-TIME: 3 or 4 days per week, 9am to 5.30pm (flexi start available)
LOCATION: London (Liverpool Street), plus Colchester (monthly, or more!) and Wrocław (quarterly)
OFFICE: 3 days a week

IN A NUTSHELL
We’re looking for an experienced Head of People to join our team on a fixed-term basis to cover a period of maternity leave. Reporting to the Co-Founder and CEO, you will lead the People function, ensuring smooth operations and strategic alignment during this time.
We're a growing business where no two days are alike. As Head of People (Mat. Cover), you will oversee all areas of the function, focusing on fostering a positive company culture across our three distinct sites, with four direct reports: the People Manager (UK), People Manager (Poland), Learning & Development Manager, and Talent Manager.
WHAT WILL YOU BE DOING?
- Lead and mentor the team with a continuous improvement mindset.
- People Strategy: Shape and evolve long-term People strategies that seamlessly align with our business goals and future vision.
- Talent Acquisition: Lead innovative recruitment efforts to attract top talent, ensuring we hire the best fit for every role.
- Learning & Development: Oversee dynamic development programs that upskill talent and foster continuous learning.
- Performance Excellence: Drive an agile performance management process that empowers teammates with clear goals, actionable feedback, and growth opportunities.
- Total Rewards: Manage compensation, benefits, and incentive programs to attract and retain high-performing teams.
- Payroll: Overseeing the administration of monthly payroll across our UK and European sites.
- Culture & Relations: Cultivate a thriving workplace culture by addressing concerns, resolving issues, and fostering meaningful connections.
- Continuous Evolution: Champion change initiatives that boost efficiency, innovation, and teammate engagement.
- Compliance & Ethics: Ensure seamless adherence to all local employment laws and regulations, while upholding our commitment to ethical decision making.
WHAT ARE WE LOOKING FOR?
- Significant experience in leading People teams within dynamic, fast-paced environments (eCommerce or similar industries preferred)
- Proven success in supporting multi-site teams, with an inclusive approach to diverse workforces
- Strong leadership in driving organisational change and managing the full People function, including talent acquisition
- Solid understanding of UK employment law, with expertise in handling complex employee relations and ensuring compliance
- Analytical mindset, with experience leveraging People metrics, data, and reporting tools to support strategic, people-first decisions
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills to connect easily, collaborate across teams, and engage effectively with diverse audiences
- Confidence in presenting ideas to senior leadership, with the ability to gain support for new initiatives
- High levels of empathy and emotional intelligence, creating a supportive, transparent, and inclusive environment for all teammates
- Strong decision-making abilities with a calm, thoughtful approach under pressure, able to prioritise and adapt to evolving needs
- Experience coordinating in-house payroll
- International experience (knowledge of Poland is a big plus!)
- Worked with Hibob or a similar HRIS platform.
